Current Award Winner
Julie (Johnson) Schwartz is the 2017 recipient of the Mary Lou Schwartz Award.  A member of Junior League since 1991, she volunteered primarily on the fundraising committees of Junior League including chair of Holiday Ball.  Other committees she worked on included cookbook, internal, and HealthWorks! Kids Museum. She also served as the Junior League representative to Leadership South Bend/Mishawaka. The “fundraising bug” was passed to her early in her time in Junior League as her mother-in-law, Mary Lou Schwartz encouraged her membership.  “Mary Lou was a huge influence on many women in our community.  Her energy for fundraising and Junior League were contagious.  I believe her passion for fundraising was a special gift she brought to League as she was a tireless encourager of all that could be done by the women in League.  She was excellent at detail and a mentor for how to rally a community to a cause.  She was an inspiration to me as she was always available to support me.”  Julie attributes her ability to be a community fundraiser as a family commitment and believes her husband Jim is her “secret weapon” in her success.

Julie and Jim’s fundraising efforts have benefited organizations such as; Carnival for the Arts, Prairie Vista PTO,  United Health Services, YMCA of Michiana and HealthWorks! Kids’ Museum.  The majority of Julie’s effort in fundraising in the past 15 years have been for the P-H-M Education Foundation in the creation of the Corporations for Education division and the building of the PHMEF endowment.
